Sicily: houses for sale for 1 euro, the price of a coffee

There are many villages, in Italy and abroad, that have activated the initiative to put the houses in their historic centers up for sale at 1 euro. The increasingly frequent depopulation of these small villages will risk creating ghost towns, with these initiatives we will try to encourage the purchase and renovation of houses.

By reevaluating and redeveloping these villages. Last in order of arrival, but certainly not for the beauty of its territory, was the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia which joined this initiative. Castiglione di Sicilia is an Italian municipality of 2,889 inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Catania in Sicily.

The town is part of the circuit of the most beautiful villages in Italy and the territory of the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia has been declared of “considerable public importance”.

Called “the quastallum” (the castle) by a well-known Arab geographer, Castiglione di Sicilia stands on a hill located in the center of the Alcantara Valley and the Etna Park, offering, to anyone who decides to go there, breathtaking landscapes and panoramas between lush orchards, citrus groves and lava flows. First dominated by the Arabs and then becoming a royal city of the Normans and Swabians, the village is renowned for two particular honors conferred on it: the bronze medal for civil merit relating to its participation in the Second World War, and the possibility of competing for the title of Most beautiful village in Italy.

To participate in this initiative, interested parties must submit an application accompanied by a redevelopment project for the property. All detailed information and guidelines are available on the website of the Municipality of Augusta, which invites everyone to discover and revive this splendid corner of Sicily.
